Youngs Creek Hydroelectric Project
This project required construction of a new 7.5 MW hydroelectric project on Youngs Creek, located about seven miles south of Sultan, WA. Strider was a subcontractor to TEK Construction and was responsible for the majority of the sitework. Strider’s work included erosion and sediment control, 48,000 LF of access road improvements with over 74,000 CY of excavation to achieve road subgrade, and 18,000 CY of excavation for powerhouse, dam and intake structures. Strider’s primary activity was the installation of 48” and 51” owner provided Penstock pipe, which has a combined length of 14,300 LF. Additionally, conduit runs, manholes, underdrain pipe, culverts and cut-off walls were installed along the length of the Penstock pipe. This project had the unique challenges of high elevation, steep terrain and a large amount of rock.
