Project Details:

The scope of this project was to build approximately two miles of secondary mainline railroad grade through Edmonds, WA. This project was very challenging with its very restricted access, heavy train traffic, and environmental sensitivity. The project requires constructing grade through two intertidal lagoons using only a one lane road to access the work. Excavation of the lagoon subgrade and placement of the foundation rock material was only to occur at low tide, requiring a majority of the work to be done at night. Once built out of the water, block walls were installed to achieve finish grade elevations. During this process several large diameter concrete culverts were cleaned and extended to the limits of the new fill section. Other project requirements include drainage improvements, stream channel restoration (Red Creek), conduit utility trench, and wetland enhancements. BNSF extended this contract to include a precast concrete railroad bridge also completed in 2010.
