Project Gallery : Roadways & sitework

Location:Deception Pass, WA
Project Dates:2007-2008
Owner:WSDOT
Status:Complete
Project Details:

This project consisted of replacing the original log traffic barrier with a replica log guardrail that is engineered to today’s standards. Work was performed under heavy traffic and required temporarily shifting SR20 to provide adequate room for construction. Two-way traffic flows were required at all times during the day, which required careful coordination of all construction activities. A majority of the work occurred during the night when one lane closures were allowed. The new guardrail system required excavation and installation of a below ground concrete moment slab for the entire length. The cast-in-place bollards were constructed and wrapped in stone salvaged from the original bollards. Just over 4,000 feet of guardrail was replaced.
